Tools & Platforms

Building a freelance career demands plenty of hard work and dedication. While there is no perfect formula for success, the following tools and platforms have been immensely beneficial to me in my endeavors. All of the products and services listed on this page are tools I use myself. I encourage you to consider what options might be beneficial for your own career, and only purchase those that make sense for your unique goals.

Please note: some of the following links are affiliate links. You won’t pay more for using one to access the product, but I may receive a small commission for sending you in the right direction. I’ve recommended them because they’re great, not because of the commission, which is just a nice bonus that helps keep this site afloat.

Bluehost

I’ve been using Bluehost since 2007 and I cannot say enough good things about their service. Need assistance? Call or chat with a customer service agent 24/7—they’ll help you resolve tech issues, answer billing questions, and much more. Plus, Bluehost offers a money-back guarantee if you’re unhappy with the service.

Themeforest

Themeforest is easily the web’s leading marketplace for WordPress templates. This beautiful site you’re looking at right now was created thanks to a WordPress template purchased on themeforest. It’s easy to maneuver through the site and search for themes using a number of different keywords, categories, and more.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row parallax_image=”” section=”” background=”” full_width=”” full_height=”” img=”” bg_fade=”” parallax=”” parallax_bg_width=”110″ parallax_speed=”normal” parallax_reverse=””][vc_column animate=”” width=”1/4″][vc_column_text css_animation=””]

Google Apps

Bluehost is a fantastic web host, but it’s hard to beat Google Apps for business email. Stop sending messages from your personal Gmail, Hotmail, or Yahoo account and get a personalized address for your business. Intuit QuickBooks Self-Employed

If you’re like me and poorly organized, Intuit QuickBooks Self-Employed is a veritable godsend! This product was released in early 2015 and features a range of features, including automated quarterly tax estimations and the ability to categorize business and personal expenses from multiple financial accounts. I’ve been using the platform since shortly after it was released and it’s safe to say I’m in love. Plus, at just a few dollars a month, it’s affordable for any freelancer’s budget.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row parallax_image=”” section=”” background=”” full_width=”” full_height=”” img=”” bg_fade=”” parallax=”” parallax_bg_width=”110″ parallax_speed=”normal” parallax_reverse=””][vc_column animate=”” width=”1/4″][vc_column_text css_animation=””]

PayPal

I’ve been using PayPal for my online financial transactions for nearly 10 years, and I cannot recommend a single payment processing system more highly. While you may be most familiar with the consumer side of PayPal, the service offers a huge array of tools for small businesses, including the ability to invoice, accept payments on your smartphone or tablet, and process credit cards on your own site. My favorite perk? PayPal offers the business MasterCard, which allows you to access your account balance at any time—and you earn 1% cash back on every purchase.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row parallax_image=”” section=”” background=”” full_width=”” full_height=”” img=”” bg_fade=”” parallax=”” parallax_bg_width=”110″ parallax_speed=”normal” parallax_reverse=””][vc_column animate=”” width=”1/1″][vc_column_text css_animation=””]

I update this list from time to time, as I stumble across new products and services that serve me well as a freelancer. Have a product you think I should be aware of? Send me an email using the address on the site header.
